Audi’s Flagship Electric Sedan makes its debut

Audi's Flagship Electric Sedan makes its debut

Audi e-tron GT launching in India
As the obvious transition towards electric vehicles gains momentum, Audi reveals its E-tron GT today. The electric car is expected in two trims - a regular GT version and a performance RS version with scintillating figures. This car is expected in India towards the later part of 2021, so for those of you interested, it just might be worth the wait.

The exterior of this electric sedan showcases fantastic proportions. A nice wide stance upfront with a coupe-like low sloping roofline tapering to the rear. It is impressive as to just how close this production version is to its earlier shared concept. We might even be daring enough to call it a four-door R8! (with the obvious drive-train change).

Its bonnet too has a rather interesting indentation adding to its strong character and shoulder line. Sleek LED headlights and tail-lights match the front and rear of the flagship electric sedans’ exterior.

Audi E-Tron GT Interior driver-centric

Audi E-Tron GT Interior, more driver-centric

Its interior is driver-focused with the central infotainment and tunnel tilted towards the driver. A 10.1 inch infotainment system along with physical buttons for climate control and other functions keeps the dashboard tidy and appealing to look at.

Performance for the regular GT version translates to a combined output of 469 hp from its front and back dual motor setup. An over boost function adds 53 hp taking its peak power to 522 hp and 630 Nm of torque. The RS version adds some mind-bending figures to comprehend. 636 bhp peak and a massive 830 Nm of torque.

This means a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.3 seconds for the RS variant. With all this power, I am sure you are curious to know the range it is capable of achieving on a single charge. A new (and more realistic) measurement - the WLTP shares 487 kms of range on the Audi’s e-GT and 472 kms of range for the RS variant.

The international price suggests a starting figure of €99,800 for the GT and €138,200 for the RS trim. Expect to (at least) double this price before it makes its way onto Indian shores.

An interesting point to note is the availability of a “non-leather” interior whereby sustainable materials substitute regularly used materials. Customers also get an optional 710 W Bang and Olufsen system.

Luxury Motor Press thinks:

The Audi E-tron is the beginning of a foray of electric vehicles that the German brand intends to launch. We love its design and are mighty impressed by its performance and range figures. It will be interesting to see how many takers there are as the segment begins to heat up for the likes of Porsche and their Taycan as well as Tesla soon to be expected as well.
