Adding to its portfolio of models in India, Lexus has just launched the LS 500h flagship sedan. Signifying a leadership move in the market, the Japanese manufacturer continues to add hybrid variants in each and every model of its lineup including the LS 500h.
The all new model showcases a sleek profile providing a coupe like silhouette incorporating the current Lexus design language. A more pronounced spindle style grill is rather imposing and certainly garners its fair share of attention. Dimensionally the car is longer than its predecessor and sits lower to the ground as well for enhanced handling characteristics.
The Lexus LS 500h uses a 3.5-litre petrol engine assisted by two electric motors (which draws power from a lithium-ion battery) delivering a combined output of 354hp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. All of which translates to a claimed reach to 100 kph in 5.4 seconds, mighty quick for a car of this size.
The interior showcases a combination of tradition and technology. Stunning handcrafted kiriko glass interior graces the cabin combined with hand pleated door panels. Added to these traditional elements is a modern remote touchpad as well as a 2,400 watt Mark Levinson sound system.
Now in its 5th generation, the LS is available in three trims: the Luxury variant starting at INR 1.77 crore, the Ultra Luxury variant at INR 1.82 crore and Distinct variant at INR 1.93 crore. Alternatives for consideration to the LS Series include the Audi A8 series, the BMW 7-series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. While the LS does offer a freshness to the segment, Audi and Mercedes-Benz are soon to reveal updates of their respective flagship models shortly as we anticipate some serious competition in this segment.
