Regera
The Koenigsegg Regera is a limited production (80 units), plug-in hybrid sports car manufactured by Swedish automotive manufacturer Koenigsegg. The name Regera is a Swedish verb, meaning "to reign" or "to rule." The Regera is a two-door coupé with a detachable targa top that can be stowed in the boot. It is the first hybrid car to be produced by Koenigsegg, as well as the first vehicle to use their Direct Drive System for power delivery. As the company's 'grand touring' oriented offer in their two-car lineup, the Regera focuses more on interior luxury and road performance.
The internal combustion engine is developed in-house. It is mid-rear mounted as a 5.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 unit. Three YASA electric motors with a total capacity of 697 hp and 900 N⋅m of torque add to the internal combustion engine. The result? Over 1500 hp and 2000 Nm of torque.
Unique to the Regera is its patent-pending Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) transmission. It essentially replaces the combustion engine’s traditional transmission – the gearbox as you know it is removed from the car. In its place, the KDD provides direct drive to the rear axle from the combustion engine without the need of multitude gears or a variable transmissions, all of which have inherently high energy losses.
During highway travel, for example, the KDD reduces drivetrain losses compared to a traditional transmission or CVT by over 50% as there is no step up or step down gear working in series with the final drive – just direct power sent from the engine to the wheels.
Another unique element new to the Regera is something called “Auto skin”. This operates all body closures completely automatically, at the touch of a button thereby implementing automation of the doors and front/rear hoods.

The Regera will also include many new technical features such as a Neonode 9-inch infrared information and entertainment system, a complete camera system with recording capabilities (front, inner, and rear), Apple CarPlay, a new sound system, ambient lighting, and 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
