The new-generation Audi A4 diesel launched in India
All new platform with the legendary 2.0 TDI unit (190 hp/400 Nm)
New age materials shedding 120 kilograms of weight
Prices starting at INR 40.2 Lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi)
Having made its debut appearance at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo showcasing the 5th generation A4 as a petrol variant (available at the time), Audi India has now introduced the diesel version of the same.
Based on a new platform, the New A4 diesel is lighter by 120 kilograms thanks to hydro-formed steel and aluminum used in its body shell production resulting in making this model 21 percent more efficient than its predecessor including a claimed fuel economy of 18.25 kmpl.
The ever popular 2.0 TDI powers the new A4 helping it create 190 hp with 400 Nm to help move its mass effortlessly. This engine is mated to 7-speed dual clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels.
Inside, is a completely digital instrument cluster (“virtual cockpit” in Audi’s terms) providing plenty of customization menu options including navigation and infotainment information. Added to this is an updated MMI system with a touchpad rotary dial for ease of use.
External styling cues suggest more of an evolution to the A4’s exterior design and the subtle updates will be more easily identifiable by enthusiasts. However, given the upgrades in technology (pretty apt for their Vorsprung Duch Technic tagline implying “Advancement through technology”), the A4 provides a well-balanced option within the D-segment and the addition of the diesel powertrain garnering a warm welcome to the A4 line-up.
