Lexus confirms its presence in India:
Initially introducing three models and opening one “Lexus Boutique” in Mumbai
Expected launch date: March 24th, 2017
Three models initially (completely imported): ES300 hybrid Sedan, RX450 hybrid & the LX570d SUVs
Local assembly plans are likely for Hybrid variants
After much thought, deliberation and teasing with the possibility of entry for an extremely long time, Toyota’s premium luxury brand, Lexus will be making its debut in India this year. The official launch date is expected to be March 24th of this year with the introduction of three (entirely imported) models from their arsenal and one “Lexus Boutique” showroom in Mumbai.
Pre-orders for the available model range has begun, however, deliveries will take place once the brand is officially launched in the country. Two models available will be Hybrid in a format based thanks to government incentivest -the Lexus ES300h sedan and the Lexus RX450h SUV. The third model will be the flagship LX570d with the intent to take on competitors including the Range Rover, the Q7 from Audi and the GL series from Mercedes-Benz.
The local assembly is also likely to be considered with the ES300h sedan given it drives on the same platform as the Toyota Camry Hybrid which is presently in production here.
This debut is clearly an indication of exciting times in the luxury vehicle sector in India and it seems like the European domination for luxury cars within the country might be in for a challenge with the introduction of the Japanese premium offering.
This may also be the initial step towards convincing the other two premium brands (Infiniti from Nissan and Acura from Honda) to make a compelling case for themselves to take part in India’s dynamic and expanding luxury vehicle segment.
We couldn’t be happier to share this introduction news with you and look forward to the brand's successful debut.
