Volvo S60 Polestar Turbo and Supercharged performance sedan launched
- First Polestar model available in India
- Only 30 cars will be available in India this year
- 0-100 kph in 4.7 seconds with credit given to a Turbo and Supercharged engine
Celebrating exactly 90 years since their first car, the open top OV4 drove out of its factory in Gothenburg, Sweden, Volvo’s performance division, Polestar has just introduced to India the S60 Polestar performance sedan as an addition to the existing S60 sedan.
Being the first Polestar model available in the country, Volvo has certainly made their intention clear with the S60 Polestar replacing its inline six cylinder with a more compact 2.0 litre four cylinder with forced induction (both turbo and supercharger) capable of reaching 100 kph in 4.7 seconds thanks to the available 362 hp and 347 lb.ft of torque. This monumental power is transferred to all four wheels via a brand new 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
This engine replacement along with some carbon fiber elements has helped the S60 Polestar shed 20 kgs of weight, making it more efficient and quicker still. Interestingly, the suspension provided is 80% stiffer than a standard S60, although manually adjustable (you read it right) with Ohlins shock absorbers providing excellent agility when driven hard.
Exterior design may seem deceiving with the S60 Polestar bearing a strong resemblance to the standard S60, however rest assured details including the the front splitter, diffuser and rear spoiler play their part when the performance of the S60 polestar is put to the test.
Being synonymous with safety, the S60 Polestar comes with features incorporated in the Standard S60 such as dual airbags, whiplash protection, park assist with the addition of all-wheel drive and Brembo ventilated and slotted disc brakes.
Launched at a price of INR 52.5 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), staggering performance figures to match the likes of the AMG variants from Mercedes-Benz and M-based performance models from BMW and limited numbers available across the country this year, the Volvo S60 Polestar is a refreshing alternative that aptly describes the cliche “Wolf in Sheep’s clothing”.
While Volvo is presently headed straight towards “green” pastures, alternative drivetrains and autonomous driving, we applaud Volvo for providing the world with performance while still keeping value in mind and for these attributes alone, the only decision is which of the only two available colours to choose from - Rebel blue or black?
