Lexus brings its Grand Tourer LC 500h to India; INR 1.96 Crore onwards

Japanese luxury car company Lexus has kept a rather low profile in India. Gradually getting better adjusted to the complex market, we presume. An onslaught of hybrids have come their way since being in India and adding to their range is a slightly flashier model. The Lexus LC 500h Grand Tourer.

Striking is easily a word that helps easily describe the LC 500h coupe. It has its signature massive spindle grille up front, 21 inch polished wheels, a low slung profile with active aerodynamics around the rear. Its well rounded-rear has some sharp details, typically associated with the Lexus brand and we like its overall proportion and design.

Powering this two door 2+2 Coupe is a 3.6 litre V6 engine pushing 300 hp and 348 Nm of torque. Adding to this is a 180 hp electric motor making it a hybrid and hence adding an ‘h’ to its LC 500 nomenclature. Combined output adds up to 354 hp and reaches its rear wheels via a unique 4-speed automatic gearbox combined with a CVT transmission. 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds should tell you just how much fun this car can be when pushed around.

Priced from INR 1.96 Crore onwards, the Lexus LC 500h ideally steps into the ring with the likes of the Jaguar F-Type, Mercedes-AMG GT and Bentley Continental GT.

Lexus is a fairly recent brand, even globally in comparison to its competition. However, with its tremendously over-engineered product and now added flair for design, they are a force to be reckoned with. While they come to India primarily via the duty heavy completely built unit (CBU) route, it will be a matter of time we believe before local assembly helps make them competitive.

Adding to its pragmatic side with the introduction of hybrids, it is refreshing to also see them showcase the possibilities with this halo model. We look forward to seeing a few on the roads soon.
